HYROX in Malaysia, Explained.
HYROX is a global fitness race: eight one-kilometre runs, each followed by one functional workout station, in the same order worldwide. One race is eight kilometres of running plus eight stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls.
So What Is HYROX?
HYROX is a global fitness race with one fixed format. You run eight one-kilometre laps, and after each lap you complete a single functional workout station. The eight stations never change and always run in the same order, whether you race in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Cologne.
That structure is the whole challenge. HYROX rewards the athlete who can keep running while fatigued and still move heavy load. It is not a sprint and not a max-strength test. It is your engine, tested for an hour under load. That is exactly the quality we train for on the floor at REP.
The 8 HYROX Stations, in Order.
Every HYROX race uses these eight stations, in this order, with a one-kilometre run before each one. Weights below are the Open division; the Pro division is heavier.
| # | Station | Distance / reps | Men's Open | Women's Open |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | SkiErg | 1,000 m | n/a | n/a |
| 2 | Sled Push | 50 m | 152 kg | 102 kg |
| 3 | Sled Pull | 50 m | 103 kg | 78 kg |
| 4 | Burpee Broad Jumps | 80 m | bodyweight | bodyweight |
| 5 | Row | 1,000 m | n/a | n/a |
| 6 | Farmers Carry | 200 m | 2 × 24 kg | 2 × 16 kg |
| 7 | Sandbag Lunges | 100 m | 20 kg | 10 kg |
| 8 | Wall Balls | 100 reps | 6 kg | 4 kg |
Total: eight one-kilometre runs (8 km of running) plus the eight stations above.
Those are race-day loads, and they are not where anyone starts. The sled comes down, the distances come in, and the numbers climb as you do. Here is what to actually lift in week one, station by station, and how to work up to the table above.
What HYROX Training Builds.
-
An Engine That Holds under Load
Running fast is easy. Running fast after a heavy sled push is the whole game. This builds the engine that doesn't fold.
-
Strength You Can Use
Sleds, carries, wall balls. Force that moves real weight, not just a number on a machine.
-
A Physique, as a Side Effect
The posterior chain that drops a race time is the one that shows up in a t-shirt. Want that on purpose rather than by accident? That's Chisel.
-
A Number to Chase
Every session is measured. You always know whether you're getting faster. You usually are.
-
Race-Ready, or Just Fit
Line up for a HYROX in KL, or never race at all. The training makes you fitter either way.
-
It Scales to Anyone
First-timer or podium chaser, the loads and distances scale. Same session, your level.
HYROX vs CrossFit.
HYROX and CrossFit both mix cardio and strength, so they look similar from the outside. They are different sports. HYROX is one standardised race: the same eight stations and runs every time, biased toward running endurance. CrossFit is constantly varied daily training with more olympic lifting and gymnastics, and its competitions change every year.
Plenty of people use functional conditioning or CrossFit-style training to prepare for HYROX. If you want a single repeatable benchmark to chase, a time you can beat next season, HYROX is the cleaner target.
HYROX in Malaysia & KL.
HYROX has grown quickly across Asia, and Malaysia is part of that wave. Interest in Kuala Lumpur has climbed as more gyms add the full station setup and coach people toward the race.
Official HYROX events and dates are published on the global HYROX website. Check there for the current Malaysia and regional race calendar and to register. To train for it locally, you need a room with the real equipment and coaching that understands the race. That is what we built at REP HYBRID in TTDI.
We keep the practical version of the next Malaysian race on one page: HYROX Malaysia 2026, the dates, the venue, what entry costs and how to register. And if you have never stood at the start line before, this is what race day actually looks like, from bag drop to the last wall ball.
How to Train for It.
Training for HYROX means building three things at once: a running engine, functional strength for the stations, and the ability to move between them while tired. That last one is called compromised running: going hard on the run straight off a heavy sled. Most people underestimate it, and it is where races are won and lost.
The fastest way in is coached, scalable sessions on the actual equipment, two to four times a week. In practice that means one long session, one hard interval session, and a full race simulation at the weekend, which is exactly how HYROX Engine, HYROX Sprint and HYROX Complete are built. Start where you are; the loads and distances scale to your level and climb as you improve.
If you want to see the shape of a session before you book one, read what a real HYROX workout looks like. If you are starting from nothing and want an honest timeline rather than a sales one, this is how long it takes from zero.
Three ways to train it, here:
HYROX Engine
An hour of steady work, and the session that builds the base underneath everything else.
Explore HYROX Engine ->HYROX Sprint
An hour broken into blocks, AMRAPs and EMOMs repeated at pace. It trains you to hold an intensity you could not hold for a full hour.
Explore HYROX Sprint ->HYROX Complete
Weekends only. Ninety minutes of stations and runs in race order, as a full simulation or a variation on it.
Explore HYROX Complete ->The Floor. Built for the Race.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is HYROX?
HYROX is a global indoor fitness race. You run eight one-kilometre laps, and after each run you complete one functional workout station. The eight stations are identical, in the same order, at every HYROX event worldwide.
How Long Is a HYROX Race?
A standard HYROX race is eight kilometres of running, split into eight one-kilometre laps, plus eight workout stations completed between the runs. Most first-timers finish in roughly 60 to 90 minutes, depending on fitness and division.
What Are the Eight HYROX Stations?
In order: 1,000 m SkiErg, 50 m sled push, 50 m sled pull, 80 m burpee broad jumps, 1,000 m row, 200 m farmers carry, 100 m sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls. Each is separated by a one-kilometre run.
What Is a HYROX Workout?
A HYROX workout is training built on the shape of the race: running paired with the functional stations, done in a way that keeps you moving under fatigue. That covers everything from a long conditioning piece to short repeated intervals to a full run-through in race order, which is how the three HYROX classes here are split.
See the three formats ->What Is the Roxzone in HYROX?
The Roxzone is the transition area you move through between the running loop and each station. The clock does not stop in it, so every second you spend there is part of your finish time. It is the reason transitions are worth training deliberately rather than leaving to race day.
How we train transitions ->How Is HYROX Different from CrossFit?
HYROX is one fixed race format: the same eight stations and runs every time. CrossFit is constantly varied daily workouts with more gymnastics and barbell skill. HYROX rewards endurance under load; CrossFit rewards all-round versatility.
Do I Need to Be Fit to Start HYROX Training?
No. HYROX training scales to any level: the loads and distances come down until they fit you, then climb as you improve. Complete beginners are trained from scratch on the same principle, and coaching matters most early on, because it builds a real base before race day rather than a shock on it. Getting fitter is the result of training, not a requirement to begin.
Do I Have to Race to Train for HYROX?
No. Many people train HYROX purely to get fit. The mix of running and functional strength is a complete, measurable workout whether or not you ever enter an official race.
What Weights Are Used in HYROX?
In the Open division, the men's sled push is 152 kg and the sled pull 103 kg; women's are 102 kg and 78 kg. Farmers carry is 2 × 24 kg (men) or 2 × 16 kg (women), and wall balls use a 6 kg or 4 kg ball. The Pro division is heavier.
What to actually lift in week one ->What Are the HYROX Divisions?
HYROX runs as Singles (you do everything), Doubles (two athletes share the work) and Relay (four athletes). Each has Open and Pro categories, with Pro using heavier weights, across men's, women's and mixed fields.
Can I Do HYROX in Malaysia?
Yes. HYROX is expanding across Asia, including Malaysia and Singapore, and the training scene in Kuala Lumpur is growing fast. Check the official HYROX website for the current Malaysia race calendar and registration dates.
HYROX Malaysia 2026: dates, venue and prices ->How Long Does It Take to Train for a HYROX Race?
It depends where you start. Someone with a reasonable running base can be race-ready in about two to three months of consistent, structured training. A coach sets the plan around your race date and current fitness.
How long it takes if you are starting from zero ->What Gear Do I Need for HYROX?
Not much to start: trainers, water and a towel. For racing, most people use a comfortable running shoe with a stable sole. Sleds, ergs and wall balls are provided at the gym and at the event.
Where Can I Train for HYROX in Kuala Lumpur?
At REP HYBRID inside Glo Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI). It has the full station setup: two 12.5-metre sled lanes on turf, Concept2 ergs and a wall-ball rig. Minutes from Damansara Utama, Bandar Utama and PJ. Three coached HYROX classes run weekly: Engine, Sprint and a full simulation at the weekend.
Where to train for HYROX in Kuala Lumpur, compared ->Is HYROX Good for General Fitness and Weight Loss?
Yes. HYROX training builds a strong aerobic engine and full-body strength at once and burns significant energy per session. It helps with fat loss, though nutrition still does most of the work. As all-round fitness, it is hard to beat.
How Do I Sign Up for a HYROX Race?
Registration is handled on the official HYROX website, where you choose your event, division and category. Train with a plan first, then enter a race that gives you enough runway to prepare properly.
How to register for HYROX Malaysia 2026 ->What HYROX Equipment Does REP HYBRID Have?
Two 12.5-metre sled push and pull lanes on grass turf, four standard HYROX sleds, Concept2 row, ski and bike ergs, a 24-foot wall-mounted rig, wall balls and sandbags. The full station list, on one floor in TTDI.
Which HYROX Class Should I Start with at REP?
HYROX Engine. It's the base everything else sits on, and the pace is honest rather than punishing. Add HYROX Sprint when you want the intensity, and HYROX Complete when you want to know what race day actually feels like.
